On Site is a group exhibition presented by Whistle Art Stop of three emerging North East based artists: Fintan Dawson, Peter Hanmer and Jo Hislop. As part of the Graduate Art Programme, each artist took part in a week long residency in Haltwhistle, resulting in the creation of new work that responds to the town and the surrounding area. Shown in the SHED space, these works attempt to explore and decipher how others perceive the world and the legacies their actions create.

The show opens at 6pm on Friday 30th October with a public preview and runs until Saturday 28th November.

"It's been a great pleasure to work alongside the three artists who were selected by a committee, from over 100 applicants. After spending time on site independently, we identified common ground in their work that moved naturallly towards a group exhibition. The process of collaborating for this show, has been included as part of our Graduate Art Programme training, proving valuable experience to all three artists. Mentoring by Louise Winter, Claudia Sacher and James Routledge, helped the artists to work through ideas and to strengthen their art practice and we hope that they will continue to work together in the future" Alison Raimes, project co-ordinator

Fintan Dawson’s photographs depict segments of the historically rich landscape surrounding Haltwhistle. In the images we see evidence of human intervention within the landscape, suggestive of the individuals that populated the area during the Roman Empire and the stories that are attached to this.

Peter Hanmer’s detailed sculptural work draws upon some of the social ideology from the end and aftermath of the Second World War and contrasts this with current political themes. A satirical narrative is present, using animal bones to form characters, as an imaginary plot unfolds.

Jo Hislop’s film installation shows fragmented moments from the journey of walking and exploring the local area. Considering what it means to experience a place, how the physical body interacts within the landscape and the feelings that are attached to this experience.
