Mimeses North is a newly formed collective of emerging photographers from across the north of England held together by a common philosophy through which all are motivated by concern for the welfare of mankind and the sustainability of our environment and resources. All seek to have an awe and beauty within their work, as a reflection of life itself, yet supporting a challenging critical engagement with social and cultural issues. All believe in working through sustained study, seeking, not the spectacle, but the learning and insight from the everyday and seemingly mundane. Not seeking out the quirky but looking for insights into the way to live, the collective aim is to find challenge whilst also finding hope. Our work is drawn from life around us – grounded in the here and now and as such presents a uniquely northern view.
The works in this exhibition are individual explorations of our place, our home and our history, each a distinctive personal reflection on contemporary living.
The SHED is part of the Whistle Art Stop in Haltwhistle and is an exhibition and project space dedicated to showcasing the work of new and emerging artists from across the North East of England.
