Dynamic patterns - an investigation above sea level
‘I am interested in the dynamic patterns that occur both in nature and by man’s hand.
In Allenheads the dry-stone walls have captivated my attention. Both above and below ground stone has been used for building homes, industrial constructions and territorial delimitation. Over time these walls bend and collapse, revealing characteristics of flexibility and fragility. The collective behaviour of the stones reveals the fluidity and mutability of their form, from their original functional patterns in the landscape.
My aim is to work with a local stone-waller to learn construction methods and eventually design and build a stone wall that will incorporate my ideas.’
