While looking for serenity, inspiration and enthusiasm I happened to find a remote site where time stands still and where a sense of awareness can calmly emerge.
Emanuela Marenz uses the photographic medium to explore her understanding on the contemporary society and the everyday life.
Although in the visual practice she doesn’t feel constrained in a specific photographic field or method, she is particularly keen in investigating issues related to the concept of identity and how it is shaped by the involvement of people with the surrounding environment.
The work Private View explores the idea of ‘sense of the place’ as the experience we have of it and the bond we create with some locations for their combination of characteristics that gives a special feel.
The photographs are taken in Holy Island of Lindisfarne, a natural wonder and secluded island divided from the mainland twice a day by the tide.
While picturing a specific northern reality, the photographs tell the intimate experience of the artist. A story of constant escaping, renewing of lives and fragility of emerging lands.
The SHED is part of the Whistle Art Stop in Haltwhistle and is an exhibition and project space dedicated to showcasing the work of new and emerging artists from across the North East of England.
